Campbell Avenue in Shirlington, Arlington County has long been known as a difficult place to find street parking. There have been regular  complaints to the county about the number of parked cars which take up spaces for hours on end, sometimes for the majority of an entire day. Without the need to pay to park, it was easy to take advantage of a space when it was open. This, in turn, made it difficult for people coming into the neighborhood to do some shopping or have a bite to eat. Eventually, the complaints were heard by the county, and a decision was made; it is time for paid parking on Campbell Avenue.

The Arlington Department of Environmental  Services conducted a study of parking patterns along the street. The study confirmed what people have been complaining about; there has been a large scale abuse of time limits in these prime parking spots for the neighborhood. Despite posted time restrictions, “parkers” have been staying much longer than they should.

To free up the parking spaces in a more regular rotation, there are now new parking meters installed on Campbell Avenue. These meters join the ones installed along nearby Arlington Mill, S. Quincy Street, and S.  Randolph Street. These new meters will help encourage greater use of the free parking garages that are available in the Shirlington area, improve traffic  flow, and provide ease of use for street parking to more people on any given day.

These latest changes are also in line with the efforts to create a more attractive and “user friendly” Shirlington neighborhood. Arlington County is full of excellent  urban villages, and it is great to see another one updating and improving for the future. The Casey O'Neal Team is here to help you before, during, and after your home buying or selling process.
